The SPORES research project (Sustainable manufacturing strategies for Products Obtained by REcovering prepreg Scraps, PRIN 2022) aims at developing strategies and methods for implementing sustainable manufacturing processes for the production of components in carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials, considering all levels of the life cycle of product: the supply of secondary raw materials and wastes instead of virgin raw materials, the development of processes with high energy sustainability and low environmental impact for the transformation of these recovered materials in second life applications, and the use of methodologies, such as the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) analysis, to support the design of processes characterized by high environmental and economic sustainability. The main challenge for CFRP composite materials is developing a circular economy model in which environmental, social and economic sustainability represents the main target.
