How can a plastic component be made recognizable and difficult to counterfeit by integrating security directly into its surface? This is the challenge behind the research activity “ACTIONS”, developed within the Uni-Impresa programme through the collaboration between the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Padova and a company based in the Veneto region. The aim is to manufacture injection-molded components equipped with anti-counterfeiting optical microstructures, designed to generate a unique signature when illuminated by a light source. The project focuses in particular on Diffractive Optical Elements, micrometric structures capable of modulating light and producing images or authentication signals that are difficult to replicate. ACTIONS therefore aims to turn the component itself into a verification device, without the need for additional labels or markings, paving the way for secure, compact solutions compatible with industrial production.
