The research activity on the Cold Spray deposition process, which UNINA has been carrying out for several years, has been the topic in numerous national research projects, including the PRIN projects: COSMEC, OPTIMA, FRONTIERS.
The deposition of coatings obtained from different metallic powders has been performed on various types of polymer composites. In particular, on reinforced thermoplastic polymers the deposition process presents greater challenges related to material degradation at high temperatures, making Cold Spray an innovative and highly advantageous technology.
The research activity, also carried out in collaboration with colleagues from UNIMERCATORUM and PEGASO, enabled the optimization of process parameters through thermographic monitoring, allowing the production of metallic coatings without polymer degradation. The resulting coatings were subsequently evaluated through mechanical and tribological characterization activities.
