The TECNO group is an advanced research laboratory in the field of manufacturing technologies (ING-IND/16) at the DIIIE Department of the University of L'Aquila. The group conducts research and development activities in innovative manufacturing processes, with a focus on dissimilar material joining, additive manufacturing, and AI-based process optimization.
The main research lines include the development of joining technologies for hybrid metal–polymer, metal–composite and metal–metal assemblies, the mechanical and thermal characterization of metals, polymers and composites, and numerical modelling integrated with artificial intelligence techniques for process control and optimization.
Research activities are carried out in close collaboration with industrial partners in the aerospace, automotive, additive manufacturing, circular economy and e-mobility sectors, within the framework of nationally and EU-funded research projects.
The flagship project is PROMETHEUS (PRocess Optimization through Multi-physics and Experimental THEoretical Unified System), funded through a FIS3 Advanced Grant of the Italian National Science Fund for a total value of approximately € 1.89M. The project develops a multi-physics, AI-based optimization framework for the Selective Laser Melting process, targeting aerospace and biomedical applications.
