The University of Genoa participates in the Interreg Italy–France Maritime PLASTRON project, dedicated to the development of circular economy models for the recovery of marine and post-consumer plastics. A multidisciplinary UNIGE research group is involved in the development and validation of recycled materials for additive manufacturing applications, with particular focus on pellet-based 3D printing. The activities include the collection and characterization of plastics recovered from beaches and seabeds, the formulation of recycled and reinforced polymer blends, and the definition of process parameters for extrusion and additive manufacturing. At the DIME laboratories, 3D printing solutions are also developed and tested for the production of prototypes and components obtained from secondary raw materials. Initial results have confirmed the feasibility of integrating mechanical recycling and additive manufacturing within local and sustainable supply chains.
