Machining

Shavings removal is undoubtedly among the most known and common processing techniques, yet it has undergone an incredible evolution over the last century. Today, the material removal rate ranges between 150 and 1,500 cm3/min, while cutting speed can reach 8,000 m/min.

The A.I.TE.M. Section Machining was created to promote basic and industrial research activity on shavings removal processes, including all the relevant aspects such as process, tools, equipment, high-speed technologies, simulation, working surface characterisation, etc.

Among the aims of the Section:

Sharing the latest knowledge of the sector;
Promoting research activity, stimulating joint initiatives among members;
Promoting our activities outside the Association to involve potentially interested companies and entities;
Working together to participate in major basic and industrial research projects;
Promoting exchange among PhD students, scholarship researchers and young researchers for joint activities.

The underlying logic is taking advantage of synergies among members to avoid dispersion and to gain strength, seizing more effectively the financing opportunities offered by the private market and public financiers.
