Progetto euroFMX: Intelligenza Artificiale Generativa open-source ed European by Design per la manifattura.
euroFMX (European TrUstworthy GeneRative AI & Autonomisation Frontier Models for Manufacturing-X Competitiveness) is a Horizon Europe project lasting 48 months, coordinated by Prof. Andrea Matta of Politecnico di Milano together with Innovalia Association, with a budget of €45 million, bringing together 72 partners from 20 European countries.
The project addresses the main challenges facing European manufacturing, including global competition, supply chain resilience, and new regulatory requirements, developing an open-source European by Design ecosystem, in line with the Manufacturing-X vision, for the development and adoption of Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Autonomisation Frontier Models for the autonomisation of industrial applications, promoting trustworthy, interoperable, and human-centric systems in support of European technological sovereignty.
The project was officially launched on 25 June 2026 in Milan as part of “RETHINKING MANUFACTURING – Forging the European AI Ecosystem for Manufacturing-X”, a high-profile event jointly organised by Assolombarda and Politecnico di Milano, which brought together prominent representatives from European and national institutions, academia and large-scale industry, including contributions from Alvise Biffi, President of Assolombarda, and Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region.
The solutions will be validated through 10 industrial pilots in the fields of advanced manufacturing, robotics, electric mobility, circular economy, and human–AI collaboration. By combining open-source approaches, sovereign technologies, and international standards, euroFMX will contribute to a European ecosystem of trustworthy and human-centric AI for manufacturing.
