The success of the annual AITEM Academy – Basic Training Course has been confirmed once again. The 2025 edition took place from 9 to 12 September at the Department of Mechanics, Mathematics and Management of the Polytechnic University of Bari. The training programme, titled “Innovative tools and topics in manufacturing processes and production systems: case study analysis”, brought together 24 young researchers from 13 Italian universities.
The aim of the course was to offer an updated overview of the most advanced tools and topics in the field of manufacturing, illustrating both the most current investigative methods and techniques as well as research management approaches.
On the first day, participants attended the plenary Young Researchers Session of the concurrent 17th AITEM Conference, where they had the opportunity to listen to the insightful presentations delivered by their colleagues.
The lessons then retraced the main areas of study of the Association’s Working Groups, which act as a bridge between universities and industry and work to promote high-level skills in sectors considered strategic for manufacturing. Professors and researchers from the Working Groups presented technical and application-oriented content, dedicating special attention to the discussion of practical case studies, useful for gaining deeper insight into the topics covered. The subjects addressed included digital twins, machine learning, laser processing, biomedical engineering, adaptive control, and composite material recycling.
An additional training session was dedicated to the use of Deform, a software tool for simulating manufacturing processes, in its versions dedicated to additive processes and plastic deformation processes. Technical staff from Ecotre Valente demonstrated the capabilities of the software and provided participants with a temporary licence so they could test it independently.
