X-ray computed tomography (CT) – applied not only for non-destructive testing, but also for geometrical metrology and the development of manufacturing products and processes – plays an increasingly central role in the current industrial context, where the precision and sustainability of production are of primary importance. The Marie Curie project “xCTing” involves European companies and research institutes with a dual objective of training a new generation of research engineers with expertise in the field of industrial computed tomography, and of overcoming the current trade-off between speed and accuracy in CT measurements. In the project, the University of Padova aims at developing new methodologies both to establish the metrological traceability of fast CT measurements, and to fully exploit the potential of metrological CT in industrial production, for the effective improvement of products and manufacturing processes.
